Well, today was the day for Becky's mastectomy. We didn't know this was going to happen so soon until yesterday evening. For the past couple of weeks Becky has been very excited about losing this part of her body. After all, she has battled with the size of her breasts since she was a pre-teen. But when the appointment was officially scheduled, she couldn't help having mixed feelings about what was going to soon happen.
So after making sure all of our kiddos were in good hands, we headed to the hospital early this morning. I was very happy to have Linda there with me. I think we really helped each other from going stir-crazy waiting for the doctor to come out and tell us how things went.
After a nail-biting 4 hours, he came out and gave us the thumbs up that the surgery was a success. We still had to wait an hour while she was in recovery but at least we knew that things had gone good.
It is annoying that the doctors still don't know what type of cancer this is yet. The guesses have been "Metaplastic Carcinoma" and "Sarcoma". I don't know anything about tumor classifications so I am not even going to try to explain those. Chemo and radiation are still up in the air but the doctor said that the sheer size of the tumor makes him think that at least one of those, if not both will be necessary.
So here we sit in the little hospital room by the train tracks in Monroe (at least they have wi-fi!). We have been told that she will be released tomorrow mid-day if there are no further issues.
If anyone can make it through this thing, Becky can. She is stubborn and a fighter. I love her so much and am so proud of her for the good attitude she has had and continues to have. Please keep her in your prayers and think happy thoughts.
We love you all.
We are thinking about and praying for you Becky! We wish you the very best!
